The Grain Project

Enhancing linkages
Enhancing linkages
Structuring agricultural commodity marketing from the farmer to the consumer is a major challenge for ACP countries. Structuring enables farmers (among others) to time their sales right in order to get the best prices, with more resources and financial tools, which also heightens transparency and reduces risks for all stakeholders along the chain.

Some enlightened African countries are heralding the way. As a resulted to this need, Savannah Commodities Company Limited has embarked on a multi-million project to ensure expansion and successful trading of all farmers and stakeholders. The Grain project among other things will lead to:

    • Cheaper handling costs: We shall have bulk intakes & discharge of grain that cuts/eliminates the packaging cost which is approximate 2.00 % of total grain cost. This is to reduce plastic usage in the world as a wall to contribute to a GREEN Economy/world.
    • Faster discharge of bulk grain vessels/containers leading to lower handling cost.
    • Efficient Post-harvest grain handling: We installed processing capacity of 110 TPH and shall work for 2 shift per day.
    • Environmentally friendly handling system meeting International Standards
    • 5,000mts bulk storage silos for lease on short/Long Term Storage that act as BONDED warehouses with URA.
    • 4,000 tons of bagged grain warehousing.
    • The Grain storage facility is approximate 7 km from Mukono railway ICD.
    • Cost saving achieved by changing from bagged to direct bulk deliveries road OR rail and supply to your client as per their volume needs.
    • This modern grain equipment shall minimised grain losses approx (1.5%) leading to reduced insurance costs and operational cost.
    • Improved inventory management & reliable/credible data platform.
    • Fumigation cost shall be reduced
    • Very low dust emissions posing no environmental pollution hazard
    • Grain safety & security is highly provided for within the facility.
